Ikat & Batik…an Enchanting Array of Indigenous Indonesian Fabrics

Beautiful textiles, the colors, weaves and designs always inspire me. Many Indonesian fabrics carry a message from the past, tell a story from one of the 14,000+ islands that make Indonesia so diverse.

My love of fabric brought me to one of my favorite fabric shops in Ubud, Ikat & Batik?

The owners Kadek & Kadek Wira have created a magnificent showcase for the support and preservation of Indonesia’s most ancient art form. Traditional hand woven, hand dyed Balinese textiles made by Artisans with the utmost care and attention to detail.

In the Gallery entrance you will discover an array of wall hangings of extraordinary Ikat and Batik designs. The Ikat richly woven into intricate designs of reds, gold and blues. ( to name a few).

Batik comes in many unique geometric patterns and colors. Indigo batik a prominent color of nature reflects the sea and sky. When I see these colors I am reminded of the Greek Islands, awash in blue and white. A personal favorite of mine.

Moving past The Gallery to a vast but serene courtyard you will find a beautiful array of Ikat and Batik textiles creatively displayed in colorful vignettes. If you are looking for that special piece for your home or a gift you will have no problem finding it here. Pillows of all sizes, throws, table runners, table cloths in unique modern designs that would blend well in any room.

You will find a lovely selection of Ladies, Men’s and children’s apparel made from the finest cotton, linen and silk. I have my eye on a few Indigo Batik silk scarves that will surely make their way into my wardrobe. Many of our guests love the batik shirts and dresses and can be seen wearing them as they head out for dinner after a leisurely day shopping, touring or lounging around LUXE.

The staff is very knowledgeable about this ancient art form and only to happy to share their knowledge to assist in making a good decision.

Thank you to the Wira family for your commitment to Indonesia’s Artisan community as well as the joy we feel when we walk through your enchanting shop.

If you have a passion for artisan fabrics, add a visit to Ikat & Batik to your “Things to do in Ubud”.
